Over 300,000 students to sit for UCE exams next week

By Damali mukhaye. Over 300.000 students are slated to sit for the 2018 Uganda certificate of education exams which kick off on Monday next week. Addressing journalists at their offices in Ntinda, the executive Secretary of Uganda examination board Dan Odongo says that out of the 336,740 students slated to sit,166,756 are female while 169,984 are male, asserting that the disparities between female and male is reducing. He says exams are to be sat from 3,658 centers across the country with 470 storage rooms. The exams start with briefing of candidates tomorrow across the country with the first physics practical paper on Monday. Exams will be running up-to the 16th of November

Lukwago backs Kamya on demolition of city illegal buildings

By Damali Mukhaye. The lord mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwango has barked the directive by the minister of Kampala Betty Kamya to halt the demolition of over 500 illegal city buildings. During the packed council meeting at City Hall, Lukwago demanded that a comprehensive probe be made to ascertain how Kampala Capital City Authority earmarked the buildings before demolishing them. The resolution to bark Kamya  was caused by an uproar from affected landlords who have since denied erecting buildings illegally, with Lukwago arguing  that it was out of order for KCCA to embark on such a ‘sensitive’ exercise without heeding the lawful procedures. President Kenyatta mourns 50 people who perished in a horror crash

By Ssebuliba Samuel. President Uhuru Kenyatta has led Kenyans in mourning 50 people who perished in a horror crash that occurred in Fort Ternan, Kericho County. The accident occurred after a bus belonging to Western Cross Roads Sacco crashed in an area locals call Tunnel on the Londiani-Muhoroni road. The 67-seater bus is said to have veered off the road while descending a steep slope and plunged down about 20 metres, where it landed on a rocky farm. Kericho County Police Commanders said those who died are 31 men, 12 women and 7 children. Two of them died while receiving treatment in nearby hospitals. Special sitting for the late former Attorney General Peter Nyombi not held today

By Ritah Kemigisa. Parliament will not hold a special sitting today for the late former Attorney General Peter Nyombi. The clerk to parliament Jane Kibirigye had earlier revealed that a special session shall be held today for the deceased. According to the parliament’s director of communication and public affairs, Chris Obore his body will just lie in state for public viewing. Obore says a date shall be communicated when the MPs shall pay tribute to their departed colleague. He  says the change is part of the speakers communication since the legislators are now recess. Many MPs have however questioned her decision.

Deputy Mayor Gombya refutes accusations of land grabbing

By Ivan Ssenabulya. Kampala Central Deputy Mayor Sam Gombya has refuted accusations on him of land grabbing. A section of persons with disabilities on Friday last week accused their councilor before the president, of conniving with KCCA officials to try selling off their piece of land near the New Taxi Park, which was given to them by the president Museveni. Gombya says this can’t be true because he was on the front to lobby for this donation. He also says he’s battled with KCCA over the land. President Museveni summoned all stakeholders to resolve the matter, the meeting expected to happen this month.
