The 1st batch of Uganda Airlines jets touch down

By Monitor Reporter. President Museveni has this morning received two bombardier CRJ900 jets at Entebbe International Airport.  The aircrafts touched the ground at 9:55am amid ululations from guests signalling the official revival of Uganda’s national carrier, which was grounded in 2001. Before landing, the air crafts first circled around the airport. President, Yoweri Museveni officially received the planes at 9:57am after being water cannoned, a common tradition when a country or company receives new planes. People danced and shouted at the new dawn. The word Uganda Airlines spotted the sides of the planes. Uganda had finally gotten a national carrier. Winnie Byanyima warns govt on Besigye, Bobi Wine Rights

By Moses Kyeyune. Oxfarm International Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima has warned the sitting regime against oppressing the opposition. Byanyima’s call comes as police increasingly tightens its grip against opposition activities, with the recent crack down targeting former FDC President KiizaBesigye, and Kyaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi. The latter has seen all his Easter Concerts cancelled by the police, while Besigye has been blocked from addressing any public gathering. The police has also arrested Mr Kyagulanyi, who is also known as Bobi Wine. MP donates Shs1million for road works

By Abubaker Kirunda. Bukooli North Member of Parliament Guster Mugoya Kyawa has donated Shs 1 million  to the constituents to  help in the rehabilitation of roads. MP Kyawa said the donation is to cater for fuel to work on some of the impassable roads in Kapyanga sub-county. Kyawa said residents need to team up for developments in the district instead of politicking. He was concerned that some leaders in the district are always forcing the Chief administrative officer to give them money outside the budget for individual use instead of looking at things which affect majority residents. MOE – Teachers’ salary for May and June will be paid

By Damali Mukhaye. The ministry of education has reassured teachers about the pay for the months of May and June, saying they will all be paid without delay. The ministry last month said that at least 1,300 its staff including teachers would not get their May and June salaries unless the Finance ministry approved the request for a supplementary budget. Aggrey Kibenge, the Ministry of Education undersecretary, said earlier that they had written to Finance ministry seeking a supplementary budget of Shs1.3 billion to cater for over 1000 staff including teachers. Now according to Jane Kyarisiima,the commissioner Human Resources at the ministry, the issue has been resolved and all teachers will get their salary promptly.

Bobi Wine arrested over blocked shows, plans Demonstration

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was today arrested by police at his One Love Beach in Busabala. Police earlier cancelled Bobi Wine’s Easter music shows in Kampala, Kitgum, Gulu, Arua and Lira. Bobi Wine this morning showed up Busabala with plans to hold a press conference as planned in regards to his canceled concerts and upon arrival was arrested and whisked away by a police van back to his home in Magere. Police forcefully opened the car in which the MP was driving, breaking his window and pulled him out. However, singer Nubian Li who was with him in the car was not arrested.
